Frequently Asked Questions (From the Habitat Website)

What is Habitat for Humanity?

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states and in more than 70 countries around the world. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward this vision by building and improving homes in partnership with individuals and families in need of a decent and affordable place to live.

How does Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program work?

Families and individuals in need of decent, affordable housing apply for homeownership with their local Habitat for Humanity.

Each local Habitat’s family selection committee selects homeowners based on three criteria:

  • The applicant’s level of need.
  • Their willingness to partner with Habitat.
  • Their ability to repay a mortgage through an affordable payment plan.

As part of their willingness to partner, Habitat’s homebuyers invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, called sweat equity, working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners.

Habitat for Humanity follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection. Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing Habitat’s homeowners.

What is a Habitat for Humanity ReStore?

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are proudly owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. Proceeds are used to build homes and improve communities locally and around the world.

Can I donate materials?

In many locations, Habitat for Humanity operates ReStores, which sells reusable and surplus building materials, furniture, and appliances to the public. To donate materials, contact your local Habitat ReStore.

How can I become a volunteer?

Contact your local Habitat for Humanity for volunteer opportunities near you.

Kiwanis Club Adventure Coast

Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Brooksville is proud to sponsor and contribute to the Kiwanis Club of The Adventure Coast. It has been a true pleasure to support their signature event, the Boots and Pearls Casino Night, in Brooksville. We are thrilled to share that 100% of the funds raised go directly to benefit the children of Hernando County.
In addition, we joyfully collected toys for local children during the Holiday Season and look forward to continuing our partnerships that allow us to make a positive impact on the lives of children throughout Hernando County
The Kiwanis Mission empowers communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children. Kiwanis strives to be a positive influence in communities worldwide — so that one day, all children will wake up in communities that believe in them, nurture them, and provide the support they need to thrive. Our Kiwanis club fulfills the Kiwanis mission by serving our community through Kiwanis Community Service Projects

Vet Fest

Vet Fest Hernando County is an incredible community event that we are proud to be a part of. All proceeds from this event go directly to support Veterans, their families, and various community organizations. As a Purple Heart County, Hernando stands as a symbol of hope and support for combat-wounded Veterans and their families. We are honored to contribute to this meaningful cause and look forward to future collaborations that continue to uplift those who have served.

Glen Lakes Veterans and Friends Association

Glen Lakes Veterans and Friends Association.  We proudly support their mission (below) and sponsor their annual Veterans Day Golf Tournament

To honor and assist veterans whose service to our nation has protected the freedoms we love and cherish.

We honor our mission statement by never forgetting these phrases:

  • “All gave some and some gave all.”
  • “They were there when we needed them.”
  • “Now, we must be there when they or their families need us.”
